Whether you’re visiting or planning a move to Florida, you’re probably curious about what the weather is like throughout the year. St. Augustine experiences an average of 223 days of sunshine per year. It is, in fact, a fairly warm, humid climate season to season. But there are still some variable conditions throughout the year. Let’s take a look at what characterizes the weather throughout the year in St. Augustine, Florida.

Hurricane Season in St. Augustine

Before we dive into the weather throughout the years, let’s talk about hurricane season in St. Augustine. A hurricane is characterized by a low-pressure, rapidly rotating center, high wind levels, and heavy rain. These storms typically form in the Atlantic Ocean before they reach landfall. They can cause a lot of damage in their path.

Luckily, we don’t experience as many tropical cyclones in St. Augustine. But that doesn’t mean this region of Florida never feels the impact of hurricane season. We do see some of the poor weather conditions associated with the season. While not many hurricanes make landfall in St. Augustine, the city will be vulnerable to tropical storms from August through early October

Summer

Summer in St. Augustine spans from June to August. This is when the city will reach its highest temperatures. Typically, summer days will hover between the 80s and 90s. We also see a lot of rain in the summer months. Afternoon showers are quite common during this time of the year. But the rain doesn’t usually stick around for long. Summer is a great time to enjoy all that St. Augustine has to offer due to the beautiful, pleasant weather.

Fall

Contrary to what you may think, the fall is actually our rainiest time of the year in St. Augustine. The entire season is very rainy due to the hurricanes brewing in the Atlantic. We experience the greatest amount of precipitation during September, with an average of 6 inches. If you’re a traveler, this might not sound like a great time to visit, but prices are lowest this time of year which can be a compelling reason to book a fall trip.

Winter

There’s no better time to be in Florida than the winter. Not only is it the driest time of year, but it’s also fairly temperate. Temperatures are typically between 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the winter season. Those visiting or moving to St. Augustine will enjoy ideal weather for lounging by the pool or soaking up the sun at the beach – a welcome break for those from the freezing northern states.

Spring

March through May is when Florida shifts into its spring season. The weather is fairly temperate this time of year. Temperatures climb to the 70s and 80s but precipitation is relatively low compared to the rainier summer and fall months. Overall, it’s a great time of year to enjoy some time outdoors before the storm clouds roll in during the summer.
